Stratford Academy in Finals of Samford

Fourteen students from four schools in Georgia reached elimination rounds at the Bishop Guild Debate Tournament at Samford University this past weekend.

In Varsity Policy, Stratford Academy’s Andrew Jones and Hemanth Sanjeev made it to finals where they will debate Mountain Brook in January for the championship title.  They received a qualifying leg to the Tournament of Champions for their efforts.

Also reaching elimination rounds in Varsity Policy were Marist School’s Claire Mills & Rachel Thurston (dropping in semifinals); Calhoun High School’s Lloyd Bearden & Katie Marshall (dropping in quarterfinals) and Marist School’s Sydney Chung & Libby Mandarino (dropping in quarterfinals) and Westminster School’s Colin Basco & Dillon Hall (dropping in quarterfinals).  Congratulations to these debaters and their coaches.

In Novice Policy, Westminster Schools’ Sam Seitz & William Stuart were defeated in the Championship round by Mountain Brook High School.  Westminster Schools also had a team in the semifinals – Saul Forman & Naman Gupta.  Congratulations!
