Sixty two students from thirteen schools represented Georgia Speech & Debate in elimination rounds this past weekend at the National Earlybird Tournament at Wake Forest University.

In Varsity Policy Debate, several Georgia teams reached elimination rounds, including the eventual Champions of the tournament. Henry W. Grady CD (Holden Choi & Ben Dean) and Dunwoody GH (Robert Galerstein & Haley Hopkins) reached the final round, where they will debate it at a later date. Pace Academy had two teams reach the quarterfinal round (Lauren Sukin & Brian Klarman) and (Victor Skendari & Jordan Epstein). All four of these teams received qualifying legs to the 2012 Tournament of Champions. Congratulations to all the students and their coaches.

In Junior Varsity Debate, Johns Creek SS (Jaya Sharma & Emily Sun) defeated Pace Academy LS (Tanner Lewis & Clyde Shepherd) in the Championship Round.

In Dramatic Interpretation, Kara von Schnackenberg of Alpharetta High School and Lukas Olson of Grady High School both reached the semifinal round. In Duo Interpretation, Luke Tieslau and Natalie Nuckolls of Alpharetta High School placed 4th overall. In Extemporaneous Speaking, Isabelle Taft of Grady High School placed 3rd overall and Kyle Constable of Lee County High School placed 4th overall. In Humorous Interpretation, Nive Gupta of Alpharetta High School placed 6th overall. In Impromptu Speaking, Isabelle Taft of Grady High School reached the semifinal round. In Original Oratory, Katie Zhang of Alpharetta reached the semifinal round.
