Henry W. Grady’s Quest for the Dream tournament was held this past weekend. A new award, the Yolanda King Award, was given to a student who excels in community service.
This year’s winner is Rachel Thurston, senior at Marist School. Also pictured is her coach, Jeffrey Miller and the Henry W. Grady coaches Mario Herrera and Lisa Willoughby. Rachel chose the Howard School as her organization to receive the donation.
Here’s a description from the Grady website:
In honor of Henry W. Grady HS alumni Yolanda King, daughter of Reverend and Mrs. Martin Luther King, Jr., we are proud to offer the first annual award for Community Service. This award is given to the competitor who gives voice to those with muted or no voice. Not only will the student be awarded a trophy created by Grady High School’s own resident artist John Brandhorst, but a donation of $150.00 will given to an organization chosen by the recipient, in the recipient’s name. A panel of community leaders will be charged with choosing the winning entry.
