Good afternoon, I've just had students approach me about the possiblity of startinga debate team at Loganville High School for the 2012-2013 school year. I have absolutely no idea about the schematics dealing with the debate team. Please send me any links or info that I need in order to assess the possiblity of us actually starting a debate team this upcoming year. Thanks in advance for your time and consideration.

Great to have you with us. Here are my opinions, not official, just the opinions of a single coach who has done this for a few years: 1) Pick one only, don't mix and match. In other words, can't add cards to 1AC that are not listed as 1AC in the packet, and you can't take cards from Constellation 1AC and put them in the SSP 1AC; 2) Space Colonies can be run in MS varsity, so yes, you can run evidence from that packet; 3) Yes; 4) No; 5) Because each plan is different depending upon the case. For e.g., you couldn't solve space colonies by putting up space satellites, you couldn't solve asteroid mining by doing the Constellation plan.

I'm brand new to coaching and have a MS Varsity team with some questions. Can anyone answer these?

1. Does affirmative need to pick one case or can you use all the cases?
2. Can you incorporate MS JV evidence?
3. Is SSP and SPS the same argument?
4. Is there a way to get a glossary?
5. Why are there different plans for different cases?

Thanks so much! Have a great day!

Everyone - you can download the novice packet on this page. All of the links take you to the files in the novice packet.

If you have specific questions, feel free to ask - instead of mailing teams the packet, the GFCA has provided the packet available to download.

Thanks!

There is only one "proposition" for policy debate for the 2011-2012 year, it is "Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its exploration and/or development of space beyond the Earth's mesosphere." Ext means an Extension brief - one that extends the arguments in a Front Line brief. On the negative, Front Lines are generally read in the 1NC, and extensions are read in 2NC and 1NR.
